Get to know me a little better with this snapshot of my ten favorite films (subject to change). Outside of #1, the rest are in no particular order.
It's a Wonderful Life
Watched it every Christmas growing up and slowly grew on me. As an adult, it hits so much closer to home.
Catch Me If You Can
It may not be the best Spielberg, but it is my favorite. I love a lot of Spielberg films, though.
The Departed
Same here with Scorsese. Definitely not his best, but this is the first movie I saw in the theater with my wife, so there's a nostalgia to this one.
Goodfellas
I think this may be the best Scorsese because it mixes technique with re-watchability so deftly.
Groundhog Day
Speaking of re-watchability, one of the best comfort watches that teaches more about humanity than most religious films. I'm also from that part of Pennsylvania (though it isn;t filmed in the real Punxsutawney).
Moneyball
I love baseball and, though I love quite a few baseball movies, there's something about this one that just hits me right where it needs to.s
Pulp Fiction
As much as I fancy myself a bit of a film snob, I'm still an elder millennial. I maintain it's not his best (Jackie Brown or Kill Bill for my money), but it's my favorite to revisit.
The Royal Tenenbaums
I love pretty much every Wes Anderson film, but this is the top of the heap in terms of performances, quotability, and production design. It's also one of Anderson's least "artificial" films.
Shaun of the Dead
What a ride - came out when I was in college and we wore this DVD OUT. God bless Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright.
The Social Network
I dragged my wife to the theater to see this opening weekend when she was 39 weeks pregnant with my oldest son. It's a masterpiece and my favorite of Fincher's incredible filmography.
